Our History

In 2010, Ohio State University’s Drs. Gang Ruan and Jessica Winter foreshadowed the potential of MagDots in their paper, Simultaneous Magnetic Manipulation and Fluorescent Tracking of Multiple Individual Hybrid Nanostructures, but it wasn’t until the following year that they were able to address the limitations of quantum dots in their paper Alternating-Color Quantum Dot Nanocomposites for Particle Tracking. Their research established the potential to aggregate dots in a protective polymer. This new approach reduces the blinking of single dots while providing a shield to prolong life. In 2012, Winter and Ruan joined Kunal Parikh and Kalpesh Mahajan to commercialize the technology forming Core Quantum Technologies with the vision to bring their MutiDots and MagDots to market.

Since then, we have been hard at work fine-tuning the science and manufacturing process behind our products. By shielding quantum dot nanoparticles in a micelle-encapsulated polymer through a proprietary electrospray process, we overcome the constraints of traditional quantum dot reagents and organic dyes on the market by providing brighter fluorescence, magnetic separation capabilities, and streamlined workflows at a low cost.
